OOC PERMISSIONS
backtagging: sure! If I drop a thread I can guarantee that I got overwhelmed by my inbox but I don't mind taking a while to finish things up
threadhopping: please do this
fourth walling: preferably not
offensive or triggering subjects: I'm generally cool with whatever ooc, EXCEPT animal abuse; I'm a giant emotional weenie about that. But if something else bothers me I'll ignore or bow out of the conversation, nbd. THAT SAID while I am okay with stuff ooc there are places I don't want to go with Matthew in-game because he's pure and young and other things. I have no intentions of putting him in a bubble (bad things have happened to him in the books) but if something feels particularly sketchy I'm gonna nope on out. Please definitely feel free to message me about specific scenarios and I will let you know if it's cool, since this is a very situational thing.

IC PERMISSIONS
platonic affection: PLEASE. Hug him, pat his head, straighten his tie, do all these things because he will not mind at all.
romance: Provided it remains as pure as anything you'd see in a Disney channel movie then yes.
fighting/injury: WHY, WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS but if you gotta then yes, sure. Just warn me before injuring him and enjoy those ICC if Ronan finds out.
telepathy/mind-reading: Definitely open to this, too! Just hit me up in advance so we can hash out what tremendous insights your character will stumble across in Matthew's head.

MoM POWERS/OPT-OUT
Matthew has minor Charm powers and a lie detecting ability, detailed as follows:

Charm:
  • Simply put, if a character is the type to go "aww" at a puppy, they will probably find themselves likewise endeared to Matthew. Characters with protective instincts may find said instincts kicking into high gear around this kid. He inspires affection in others and makes friends with his peers very easily.
  • Now while this is an effect he has on almost everyone in his canon, ultimately it's really no more "powerful" than him having an exceptionally endearing personality and disposition. He does not have any particular influence over anyone. The reason I put this in his powers is that his personality is the result of him being a literal dream brought to life.
  • With the above info in mind please note that it is not necessary to opt out of Charm if you want your character to be unaffected. I'm certainly not gonna try to control their reaction to Matthew. However I am still throwing it in here to be safe and in the interest of ooc communication.

Lie Detection:
  • Matthew will be intuitively aware when someone is lying
  • He has to be listening to the liar speak (mental voice counts too.) Lie to him all you want in text and he won't know the difference, though.
  • Although it is an auto-ability he will also have to be paying some attention to the person talking (he won't get assaulted with untruthfulness pings just by walking into a room full of people who are lying their heads off, for instance.)
  • Intention matters to an extent, too; he won't get pinged by watching a tv show where the actors are pretending to be someone else. Additionally if someone is well and truly convinced they are telling the truth even if they aren't, Matthew won't get a ping from that either.
  • He won't necessarily be able to tell why someone is lying or, if the story is intricate enough, which part is the lie and which parts are the truth.
  • Basically all of these limitations are in place so that Matthew's ability can be used situationally, in order to allow him some much-needed agency and provide the most flexibility with plotting. He is never going to be some kind of info-powerful superkid who knows everybody's secrets.
